A law firm with a branch in Douglas says it's suffered a data security incident.
Appleby confirmed it has reviewed its cyber security and data access following the cyber attack last year.
The statement comes after the company received enquiries from the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists regarding the business conduct of some of its clients.
Appleby says it's disappointed the media may use information from material which was obtained illegally, and that this could result in data protection breaches.
The company insists it has vigorously investigated the allegations and that there is no evidence of any wrongdoing.
The allegations and data breach have been reported by UK newspapers today.
Appleby has offices in a number of other offshore locations including Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands and Jersey.
