An amber weather warning is in place until midnight, with the worst of the conditions expected to be between 6pm and 8pm.
As a result, the Mountain Road will close from 6pm until midnight, with high-sided vehicles already being advised to avoid the route.
The northern end of Douglas Promenade, Castletown Promenade, Shore Road in Gansey and Fenella Beach and the Castle Causeway in Peel will close from 7pm as waves are expected to come over the sea walls at high tide.
The police are advising the public to avoid non-essential journeys after 5pm, while motorists should park away from seafront areas.
