Bus drivers, DoI continue dispute over holiday entitlement

Sat, 26 Aug 2017

Bus drivers won't work overtime next week after talks with the Department of Infrastructure over holiday entitlement broke down.

The DoI has been in talks with union Unite in a bid to reduce the number of drivers who book TT fortnight off each year.

The Department admits it's disappointed its proposals have been rejected by the drivers, insisting their plans are within the existing working agreement and the Island's employment law.

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer says the industrial action has been deliberately timed to hit the Festival of Motorcycling during race week, when the Island is busy with visitors.

The Government warns some disruption is possible as drivers work only their contracted hours between Monday and Friday next week, although it hopes to operate the bus service as normal.
