An electronic system for ordering medicines for Manx patients will be brought in within the next year.
The Department of Health and Social Care is in the process of purchasing an electronic prescribing system for inpatients at Noble's Hospital, Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital and the Mental Health Service.
The Department hopes the system will reduce the chance of medical staff misinterpreting a prescriber's intentions, as well as speeding up restocking drugs.
Nursing teams will also record what medicines have been administered on an electronic wall chart, while hospital pharmacists will be able to review requests for drugs electronically.
The system will initially be run on computers before progressing to tablets and other mobile devices in the future.
