Minimum wage committee to review rates for younger workers

The Economic Development Minister says the minimum wage committee will review the decision to set a different rate for under 25s.

From June, workers over 25 years of age will be entitled to at least £7.50 an hour, while those aged 21 to 24 will receive £7.20.

Laurence Skelly was asked about the difference in this month's Tynwald sitting, and confirmed that the committee has been asked to review the rates for younger workers when it next meets.

However, the Minister insists younger workers often have less experience and need more training and supervision than older workers.

The minimum wage is currently £7 for workers aged 21 and over.
