An analysis of the Island's most recent Census says the Manx population is ageing more than anyone expected.
Isle of Man Population Atlas is an independetly-run website which looks into a wide range of population issues.
Since the 2011 Census, the number of over 65s living on the Island has risen by almost 15%, giving the Island its largest ever number of people in this age group.
Population Atlas says the growing elderly population would be the greatest threat to the Island if it wasn't for depopulation, and that policies encouraging population expansion must be thought through to the end.
Despite the rising number of over 65s, the Census results showed the population as a whole fell by 1.4%.
