The Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister says telecoms providers aren't forced to share masts.
Geoffrey Boot was asked whether companies are urged to share transmitters as part of the planning process during this week's sitting of the House of Keys.
The Minister confirmed some masts are shared, but they aren't required to consider using the same site as other providers.
Mr Boot also revealed planning applications for masts are often accompanied by a list of sites that have been ruled out, explaining why sharing isn't always an option.
The answer was given in response to a question from Douglas North MHK David Ashford.
