Police warn of controlled explosions at schools

Sat, 05 Nov 2016

A number of controlled explosions will be carried out on the Island this weekend.

The Island's police are working with the Military Explosives and Ordnance Disposal Team to remove a chemical from several of the Island's schools.

New guidance on safely storing 2,4 Dinitrophenyl - which is used in some school chemistry lessons - has resulted in the substance being disposed of at schools in the UK.

The Isle of Man Constabulary is advising the public not to be concerned if they see police and military vehicles at school sites in the next couple of days.

A small number of controlled explosions are expected, but officers say there will be no risk to the public or property.
