The Infrastructure Minister says a scheme to reconstruct Douglas promenade will go ahead at the earliest opportunity.
Short-term resurfacing works to improve the road surface from Castlemona Avenue to Summerhill will get underway later this month, with full works to follow.
Ray Harmer says the resurfacing will make the road smoother and safer while his Department works on a long-term solution for the promenade.
Several plans have already been drawn up and abandoned, with how the works would affect the horse trams proving a sticking point.
This month's works will be carried out in two phases over a two-week period, with parking suspended and a contraflow system in place to allow the road to remain open to traffic.
The temporary fix will cost £40,000 and will only be carried out on the driving lane, stopping three metres either side of the tram tracks.
