Fine for teen who punched man in street
Fri, 12 Aug 2016
A teenager has been fined £500 after punching a man in the face on the streets of Port St Mary.
18-year-old Dillon Rice, who lives in Willaston, lashed out at the man causing a cut above his eye on Bay View Road on July 20th.
The incident, which happened at around 9pm, was witnessed by a resident who lived nearby - he phoned the police saying the behaviour was 'detrimental to the village'.
The victim told officers it was an "unprovoked assault" but refused to give a statement or make a complaint.
At Douglas Courthouse this week Rice, who is unemployed, pleaded guilty to a charge of provoking behaviour.
His advocate described it as a "regrettable incident" saying it was an argument between acquaintances over a "personal issue" and he was "sorry for the public display of confrontation".
Sentencing Rice Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him incidents like this "affect people living there and visitors who don't expect to see behaviour like that".
She also ordered him to pay £125 in costs - the money will be deducted from Rice's benefits at a rate of £10 per week.
