Back to jail for teen who spat in cop's face

Wed, 10 Aug 2016

A teenager who spat in a police officer's face just two days after being released from prison has been sent back to jail.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday 18-year-old Jason Quayle was told his behaviour was 'disgusting' after pleading guilty to assaulting the PC on July 23rd.

Police attended Lord Street Bus Station just after 7am on that day where they found the Crosby man intoxicated and asleep in one of the shelters.

After rousing him he refused to cooperate and became abusive - he was arrested and taken to the custody suite at Police Headquarters where he was "extremely agitated".

As he was being booked in Quayle purposely turned to the male officer next to him and spat directly into his face before continuing his aggressive tirade at the officers calling them 'pigs'.

During sentencing Quayle's advocate told the court he'd been 'making up for lost time' following his release and had been drinking heavily the night before.

He said he had no recollection of the incident until it was played back to him on CCTV saying Quayle feels "stupid and ashamed" and was "shocked by his own actions".

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Quayle "your behaviour by anyone's standards was appalling" saying spitting at anyone is an "extremely serious offence".

She ordered him to serve a 14 week custodial sentence and imposed a 12 month licensing ban.

Sending Quayle back to prison she told him "you have a real difficulty with alcohol - unless you address that you'll spend a lot of your life in prison".
