Children mark 100th anniversary of Battle of the Somme

Schoolchildren around the Island marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme yesterday by laying wreaths at parish war memorials.
Hector Duff is a World War Two veteran and says it's important for the children to acknowledge and remember the bravery of their forebears.
He shares his experiences with schools and says the presence of the Legion yesterday serves 'to ensure the children of this generation are aware of the significance of the Battle of the Somme in world history.'
Children from Onchan School laid a wreath and a plaque at their memorial and listened to the parish clergy and the D-Day survivor.
