Education Council could be scrapped over independence concerns

The Isle of Man's Education Council could be scrapped after concerns were raised about its independence.
The Department of Education and Children is looking to change the Education Bill in a bid to get rid of it in three years' time.
In its place it wants to appoint an independent ombudsman who would deal with complaints that are brought against education, sports and the arts.
The current council was appointed in January - chief executive Ronald Barr says whilst the people serving are genuinely interested in education the body is not independent:
