Laxey Airgun shooter Gemma Kermode’s ambition to once again represent the Island in the next Commonwealth Games, had a significant boost recently, when results for a high ranking postal competition from the National Small-Bore Rifle Association were posted. This talented young lady’s preferential shooting disciplines are Airgun rifle and Three Positional .22 rifle, both standing disciplines and overall, are the most difficult to master.
Gemma has been competing in the National Small-Bore Rifle Association, 10 metre (Classified) Air Rifle Individual Autumn Competition 2015 against 52 of the most experienced ladies involved in British Air Rifle shooting including Commonwealth Games Medallist Sheena Sharp, well known to many locals as a regular competitor on the Island at the Easter Shooting Festival.
This particular competition consisted of two rounds each of 60 shots. In round 1 Kermode, shooting in Class A against 19 other class competitors, posted an outstanding series of 98, 99, 100, 97, 99, 98 = 591 giving Gemma a lead of twelve points from second place shooter M.D. Joyce on 579. Kermode’s Round 2 match score was not quite as high as round 1 however, she once again, posted a terrific series of 96, 94, 100, 97, 99, 96 = 582 and on this occasion, a seven point lead from second shooter D. Marklow.
The aggregate and final score shows the outstanding quality, dedication and determination of Kermode’s shooting 591 + 582 = 1173 from D. Marklow (a junior) 562 + 575 = 1137. Gemma led the competition throughout and collected a valued Gold Plaquette in the process !
