Police warn 'it's time to change' to tackle burglars

People on the Isle of Man have become too complacent about home security and now "it's time to change".

This week police are sending out a crime prevention leaflet to all residential properties - it highlights things people can do to stop them becoming a victim of crime.

At the start of the year the Island came under attack from professional criminals who carried out an "unprecedented" spate of domestic burglaries - they were never caught. 

Detective Inspector Mark Newey says there is a difference between professional and opportunistic offenders.

Statistically around a third of offences are preventable - he's urging people to ensure they protect themselves:
