Student link up is benefiting elderly befriending service

Efforts to reduce loneliness and social isolation in old people in the south of the Island have been boosted thanks to local teenagers.
Southern Befrienders is celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend and the charity is paying tribute to a long running link-up with Castle Rushen High School.
Students aged 16 and 17 are paired up and offer a befriending service to people over 60 visiting them in their homes.
Manager Lorna Trevethan says it's mutually beneficial and has helped to break down stereotypes from both generations:
