Archery Round-Up

Wed, 27 May 2015

With several club members away at competition it was a small group who met at Greeba on Sunday to shoot a Metric Round as part of the Club’s Handicap League. While not exactly cold, the wind conditions made shooting difficult and only one archer managed to hit the target with all of their arrows.

Pete Mumford was the only male compound archer to take to the field, he suffered a miss at the longest distance and seemed generally unhappy with his form. Joy Gough was once again the only female compound archer in evidence and was still coming to grips with a new stabilization system.

In the Ladies Recurve division Karen Lott shot solidly in spite of having two misses to record the highest ladies scratch score of the day and secure fourth place after the handicap was applied. Barbara Harris put in a season’s best but was still way off her form of last year.

Once again it was the juniors who made the best of things with James Hill adding 2 points to his pb for the Short Metric II and finishing second overall after handicapping. Toby Young who had been away for a week was only a little below his best and finished in third place overall. The greatest improvement on the day was made by Charlotte Harris shooting the Ladies WA1440 round (3 dozen arrows at each of four distances 70, 60, 50 and 30m). Charlotte added 34 points to her pb for the round to set a new Club Record and take the overall win after handicap.

Both Danny Cowin and Josh Trafford were a little below their best.

Results – 1. Charlotte Harris 1519 (142/1028/14/4)pb NCR, 2. James Hill 1464 (57/274/1/1)pb, 3. Toby Young 1455 (62/341/2/2), 4. Karen Lott 1414 (142/1083/10/1), 5. Joy Gough 1397 (72/581/9/1), 6.
