Bus drivers reject offer - 12 day bus strike gets underway

Sat, 25 May 2013

A 12 day bus strike is now in effect after drivers rejected a last ditch pay terms and conditions offer from the Department of Community Culture and Leisure.

Cheif Executive of the Department, Nick Black, says it is very dissapointing that the drivers have opted to reject this latest offer however they feel well set up to cope with the TT fortnight with a comprehensive bus and rail service.

The strike will last until Wednesday 5th June.

The Department are calling on parents to ensure their children are able to make it to their exam centres, as they cannot guarentee a service that will cater for all those needing transportation.

It is anticipated that the reduced bus service will also result in increased congestion, in this event people are urged to car share where possible and enquire about flexible working hours to avoid everyone travelling at peak times.

The modified timetable is now available from the iombusandrail.info website.

DCCL Minister Graham Cregeen said he had expected the drivers to accept this latest offer.
