Manx lifeboats report increase in call outs
Tue, 22 Jan 2013
The Isle of Man has bucked the national trend by reporting an increase in lifeboat call outs last year.
New statistics released today show that 68 people were rescued by Manx lifeboats in 2012 – the highest number since 2009.
That’s despite overall launches around the UK and Republic of Ireland being down seven per cent.
Four out of five stations on the Island reported an increase in the number of people rescued with Peel named as the busiest station.
Crews there bought 26 people to safety – that’s double the number rescued in 2011.
