More than 160 turned out yesterday for the Island’s first conference geared to boost young people’s opportunities in the workplace.
Of the Island’s 1,014 unemployed, 396 are young people aged 24 and under.
It was estimated at a recent International Labour Organisation meeting that the effects of the euro crisis will spill over to emerging economies, pushing youth unemployment to almost 13% by 2017.
The Department’s of Education and Children and Economic Development organised the conference held at Mount Murray to highlight skills young people need for success in the work place.
Tony Wild MLC told us that the Island’s greatest commodity currently is it’s people.
