Fire fighters to start world record challenge

Fri, 13 Jul 2012

Ten fire fighters from the Isle of Man are attempting to earn a place in the Guinness Book of Records today (Friday) by taking part in a 24 hour ladder challenge.

The officers will be scaling a 15 metre ladder at regular intervals before sliding back down a pole and then repeating the process.

It will take place on a specially erected tower outside the Post Office in Regent Street starting at 3pm.

As well as trying to beat the current world best of over 109 kilometres, which was set in 2005 by a group of New Zealand fire fighters, the men will be raising money for a number of local charities.

Fire fighter Gary Kirby says the challenge ahead is a big one: [play media file below]
