The Water Authority says it's very unlikely there's any risk to health as thousands of households are advised to boil their drinking water until tomorrow night.
The recent rain washed a lot of sediment from the hills into the reservoirs.
This meant that the quality of water reaching the Douglas treament works yesterday morning was below its normal standard.
The news was released on social media sites last night and led to some people worrying about contamination and any possible side effects.
Peter Winstanley is the authority's Chief Executive.[play media file]
