A new scheme to deter motorists from putting staff at the sites of road works in danger is being piloted.
The Department of Infrastructure is placing CCTV cameras at the works at the Glen Lough Dip on the Douglas to Peel Road to deter drivers from ignoring red lights.
Last year, several motorists were prosecuted for ignoring traffic lights at road works in Castletown.
Despite campaigns and appeals calling for road users not to jump red lights the problem is continuing.
Whilst footage captured by the cameras could be used to help secure prosecutions, the DoI hopes the measure instead acts as a deterrent.
