A court has been told the police officer accused of causing the death of a Manx student was driving at almost twice the speed limit and with no flashing lights or sirens.
19 year old Jamie Haslett from Onchan was struck by a patrol car in Sheffield in October 2010.
PC Rodney Mills denies death by careless driving and is on trial at Bradford Crown Court.
Prosecutors told the jury Mills was travelling at 58mph in a 30mph zone.
The police officer was said to be driving back to his station before responding to a 'priority' call out.
Mr Haslett had been out drinking with friends and was running across the road as he made his way home.
The court heard the officer didn't see him until less than a second before the impact.
It's the prosecution's case that there was no need for PC Mills to be driving at that speed under the circumstances.
