False alarm as Flybe plane comes in to land

Mon, 13 Feb 2012

A Flybe plane has been given the all-clear after air traffic controllers at Ronaldsway thought they saw smoke coming from the undercarriage.

The incident happened at around 14.30 yesterday.

The aircraft had taken off from the Isle of Man and was on its way to Liverpool when the pilot decided to turn back to have engineers check over a non-emergency cabin fault.

It was as it came back into land that air traffic control raised the alarm after a possible puff of smoke was spotted.

The plane was examined on the runway, where it was determined it was a false alarm and that there were no problems.

Airport Director Anne Reynolds describes it as a 'ground incident' and says no emergency was declared.
