MHK calls for more breast screening

Fri, 10 Feb 2012

An MHK is to ask Tynwald to remove the age cap for automatic breast screening.

Ramsey member Leonard Singer wants the checks to be standard for all women on the Island.

Currently, only those aged 50 to 70 are routinely called for screening, but anyone with concerns can refer themselves.

Mr Singer says such screening improves breast cancer survival rates.

In last week's sitting of the House of Keys, Health Minister David Anderson said no changes would be made until a report currently being compiled in the UK on this issue was published.

Mr Singer will bring a motion to this month's Tynwald sitting asking that members agree the screening should be automatically available to all women on the Island.
