Busy year for lifeboat crews on the Isle of Man

Four of the Island's five lifeboat stations saw an increase in the number of times they were called out last year.

The RNLI has revealed that Manx lifeboat crews spent 351 hours at sea, having been called out 45 times to rescue 50 people during 2011.

Douglas lifeboat made the most rescues, helping 20 people, whilst Port St Mary's crew was called out the most.

It's all weather vessel went out 11 times, whilst the inshore boat was used 7 times.

Volunteers spent 10,723 hours training.

The RNLI is thanking the Manx public for its support over a busy year.
