Government spends £12m on consultancy fees

The Government has spent nearly £12million on consultancy fees for current projects.

In a written answer at this month's sitting of Tynwald, Chief Minister Allan Bell revealed 32 Government bodies has amassed the bill through ongoing contracts.

The 32 bodies include the Government departments, statutory bodies like the Isle of Man Post Office and other organisations including Freedom to Flourish and the Safeguarding Children Board.

Most of the fees related to capital projects and design work.

Over £250,000 has been spent on quantity surveying and cost consultancy services for Douglas Water Treatment Works over the last seven years.

There's also been £640,000 spent on design services for the natural gas extension project and £300,000 on engineering services for the same project.

Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan asked for the figures to be revealed
