Social care services spending revealed

Paying contractors for social care services costs the government almost £19m a year.

The figure was revealed in response to a written question from Michael MHK Alf Cannan in the House of Keys.

The Department of Social Care says the sum relates to a broad range of services including those for mental health, older people, those with disabilities and children and young people at risk.

Last year, the biggest share of the spending went to care provider St Christopher's at 6.5 million.

Over £3m went to the Children's Centre.

Spot contracts worth £3.4m went to UK providers.

These are for speciality placements for people whose needs fall outside the standard services provided on the Island.
