Clarksons too late to submit petition

Sat, 01 Oct 2011

The Clarksons have been told it's too late to file a petition of doleance over disputed public rights of way on their land.

Top Gear presenter Jeremy and his wife Francis submitted the petition earlier this year, after Deemster Doyle ruled no more evidence would be heard in the case.

However, the Department of Infrastructure protested, saying the petition of doleance should have been submitted within three months of the report into the footpaths being published.

The findings of a public enquiry into the paths at Langness were released in May 2010.

The Deemster said there was no good reason for the delay, and that the Clarksons are out of time to submit the petition.

The initial enquiry found a number of public rights of way on the Clarksons' land, a matter which they have been challenging through the High Court.
