The Steam Packet Company has notified its freight customers that prices will be going up in the New Year.
In a letter to customers, the operator says the increase has been based on the inflation rate according to the Island's Treasury.
Competition for freight services has increased recently, since Mezeron began operating a twice daily service from Douglas.
The Steam Packet has warned it may have to lay some staff off as a result of losing customers to Mezeron.
Questions relating to the Steam Packet Company will feature heavily in this month's sitting of Tynwald.
Meanwhile Michael MHK David Cannan will table a motion tomorrow that Tynwald sets up a committee to evaluate placing the Steam Packet in public ownership.
