The first major revision of the Island's fishing laws for almost 40 years moves a step closer today.
Juan Turner MLC will give the Fisheries Bill its first reading in the Legislative Council.
He told Energy FM News that he hopes its passage through the branches will be complete by late October and it can be finalised in the New Year.
He added that the Division currently has to operate under two different Acts, and that this is an opportunity to combine them into one, making it easier for the public to understand.
The Fisheries Division hopes the Bill will enable it to legislate for a modern day industry and provide a better service for recreational angling.
The Legislative Council sits in public at 10.30.
