DHSC spends over £3m on flights, sailings

The Department of Health and Social Care spent over £3m making almost 19,000 trips to and from the Island last year.

During the 2016-17 financial year, the cost of flights including for medical and emergency travel was £3.1m, while £61,500 was spent on sailings.

The Department uses an air ambulance plane for emergencies, while patients also travel to hospitals in the UK for regular treatment and appointments not available at Noble's.

The DHSC also confirmed it has an agreement with Flybe which includes specific prices and flexible terms, but that the exact rates can't be revealed for commercial reasons.
