Bridge refurbishment to get underway next month

Refurbishment work will get underway at a bridge in the south of the Island next month.

The Department of Infrastructure has confirmed it will begin a scheme to repair and replace parts of Cain Bridge in Castletown from October 4th.

The work had been due to begin before Easter, but the project had to be put on hold as DoI staff were needed elsewhere at short notice.

The bridge will be craned out of position and taken to a covered workshop for refurbishment, while work will also take place on the slewing ring and rollers which open and close the bridge.

The Department says the work is necessary after many decades of exposure, and will prevent the need for most costly intervention in the future.
