Police clamping down on UK-registered vehicles

Tue, 21 Mar 2017

Most UK-registered cars need to undergo an examination at the Vehicle Testing Centre before they can be registered on the Island.
Most UK-registered cars need to undergo an examination at the Vehicle Testing Centre before they can be registered on the Island.

The Island's roads police are clamping down on UK-registered vehicles being kept and used on Manx roads.

Vehicles imported from off Island by Manx residents need to be registered, tested and taxed as a Manx vehicle.

The Road Policing Unit will spend the next three days targetting UK vehicles based on the Island, cracking down on those who keep the UK registration without a valid reason.

Last week officers stopped a vehicle that failed the Manx test three years ago, which had been driven untaxed and in a dangerous condition since.

Visitors can use cars registered elsewhere for up to 12 months providing the owner doesn't become a Manx resident during that time.
