OFT issues parcel scam warning

Fri, 17 Feb 2017

The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading is warning of a parcel scam.

The organisation says those targeted receive a postcard claiming a package containing jewellery is being held.

However, the OFT warns this is a scam aiming to obtain credit and debit card details, and warns against calling the number of the card.

The fraudsters will ask for a processing fee before the parcel can be delivered, allowing scammers to get their victim's card details.

The OFT has been working with the Isle of Man Post Office to reduce the chances of a Manx resident getting caught out, but the Post Office is legally obliged to deliver the postcard.

Anyone who receives such a card can contact Consumer Advice at the OFT on 686500.
