An Isle of Man couple have become the first people in the British Isles to enter into a heterosexual civil partnership.

The ceremony for Kieran Hodgson and Adeline Cosson took place at Douglas Registry Office on Friday.

As part of the Island's Marriage and Civil Partnership Amendment Act, couples have been able to enter into same-sex marriages and opposite-sex civil partnerships since July.

The UK has offered civil partnerships to same-sex couples since 2004, but has so far declined to extend the same option to heterosexual partners, despite some calling for the choice.
