The newly-elected Speaker of the House of Keys isn't ruling out a bid to be Chief Minister if none of those standing in next week's election gain enough support.

Juan Watterson was unanimously elected to the role of Speaker earlier this week.

The Rushen MHK took to Facebook to explain his decision not to stand for Chief Minister, admitting that he didn't think he would get enough support in Tynwald and he doesn't feel ready for the role.

However, the former Home Affairs Minister admits he hasn't ruled out putting himself forward if no clear favourite emerges next week.

Kate Beecroft, Alf Cannan and Howard Quayle have been nominated for the top job, but must secure a majority to secure the post when Tynwald votes on Tuesday.

In 2006, then-Speaker Tony Brown became Chief Minister following a second round of voting after the initial candidates failed to gain enough support.
