Poor scores at Sinclair

Thu, 11 Aug 2016

Monday evening had fourteen shooters competing for round 6 of The Osborn Carpets second 600 and rounds 16 of The Empire Garage Tynwald Shield and The Sadler Junior Championship. General weather conditions were near perfect although the light was somewhat vague and a slight gust of wind now and again did manage to catch some shooters off guard. In The Osborn Carpets match, Harry Creevy posted the highest gun score of the evening with 611.3 - a remarkably low score compared to his results in excess of 618.00 over the past 5 weeks. Gemma Kermode claimed second position on 607.2 with Andy Traynor taking a creditable third on 606.6. Positions 4, 5 and 6 were each separated by just .1 but a delighted Sharon Drysdale managed to take the fourth slot from John Wood in fifth and Tracey Skelton in sixth – excepting Harry Creevy, a terrifically close match indeed.

The Empire Garage Tynwald Shield round 16 goes to Drysdale

In the Empire Garage Tynwald Shield, once again, Sharon Drysdale took the win but on this occasion, by the narrowest of margins from Andy Traynor with his best score of the season to date. Gemma Kermode claimed third some 3 points in arrears. Drysdale continues to impress in nearly every competition she is involved in – surely an individual capable of bigger and better results in the not too distant future.

1 - Sharon Drysdale                605.4 + 53.1 = 658.50

2 - Andy Traynor                     606.6 + 51.6 = 658.20

Keown wins round 16 of The Sadler Junior Championship

Just two teenagers shot round 16 of the Sadler Junior Championship and on this occasion fourteen year old Rhys Keown took the match by a single point from Matthew Roosen who has been experiencing some minor problems of late but which I am sure he will eventually overcome.

Result:-

1 - Rhys Keown                        91.4, 99.4, 95.1 = 285.9

2 - Matthew Roosen               94.1, 92.7, 98.1 = 284.9

Brown claims the August Handicap match

Sunday morning was rather dull with a brisk breeze blowing through Sinclair Range proving to make shooting difficult for the twelve shooters competing in the Isle of Man Shooting Club’s August Handicap. Just one shooter managed to post a gun score in excess of 600 with Mike Duncalf hitting 609.80 but once the handicaps had been added, the win went to Nick Brown with Duncalf taking second position and Sue Keown, in her first monthly match and only her second ever outdoor match, claiming a very creditable third slot, beating her previous weeks gun 45.00 points. The breeze did create difficult conditions for all as can be seen by the results below.

Round 4 of the IoM Shooting Club’s Junior 50 metre Grand Prix goes to Sam Jones

Due to pressures at school, shooting for Sam Jones has taken a back seat this summer but in the 50 metre Junior Grand Prix, which was shot concurrently with the August Handicap, Jones led the four entries by just over a point and claimed the penultimate round.

Dates for your Diaries

Next Monday August 22 will see the final Monday evening match of the IoM Shooting Club’s 2016 season which will include round 8 of The Osborn Carpets second 600 and rounds 18 of The Empire Garage Tynwald Handicap and The Sadler Junior Championship.

PLEASE NOTE – AGM date change

There has been a change to the date of the Annual General Meeting of the IoM Shooting Club from that indicated on the Competition Programme for 2016.

It has been decided, rather than holding the club’s AGM and the Annual Prize Presentation as separate events, both will take place on Sunday, September 4 after the September Handicap match. There will be a ‘hog roast’ and BBQ to finish off the day and it is hoped that some ‘fun Shoots’ can be held but more will be revealed nearer the day.

Times and price will be announced as soon as possible, but it would be helpful if you could let Mike Duncalf know by email on mdshooting@gmail.com to reserve a ticket as soon as possible.
