Community service for man who assaulted mother of his children

Wed, 28 Oct 2015

A Douglas man who assaulted the mother of his children because things "got too much" has been told he must carry out community service to "change his ways".

21-year-old Michael Webb attacked his partner in the kitchen at their home in the early hours of September 13th following an argument.

He pushed the 20-year-old to the floor, pulled her hair and pushed his head into her - she was left curled in the foetal position trying to defend herself.

He then took a knife and threatened to self-harm - Webb later admitted a charge of common assault on a female.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday his advocate said he'd been in a "highly emotional and distressed state" and was suffering from depression.

Sentencing Webb the Magistrates said they took a "very serious view" of the offence adding it must have been extremely distressing for his partner.

As well as instructing him to carry out 80 hours of community service they imposed a 12-month probation order.
