Strong GCSE maths results good news for business sector

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Yesterday was GCSE results day, with nearly 900 students receiving their grades which will decide their next step whether it be into the workplace or higher education.

In total 69% of the GCSE entires were passed at higher grades from A* to C, in line with last year's record.

This year saw large numbers achieve passes at grade C and above in maths, with 74.5% obtaining the all important subject pass.

Co-ordinating Adviser for 11-19 Education Paul Craine has branded this the most pleasing element of the 2014 results given the considerable demand on the Island in the finance, IT and other sectors, which require people with strong maths skills.

He is cited a great deal of focussed work across all the schools for the positive maths outcomes.
