A dramatic rise in cases of mumps on the Isle of Man has led to a call for people to ensure they've had the MMR vaccination.

By the end of August, 135 cases had been reported - that's compared to just seven cases through the whole of 2011

Symptoms of mumps include fever, headaches, muscle aches and most notably swollen glands.

Although most people make a full recovery there can sometimes be serious side effects, with some individuals suffering inflammation of the testes, ovaries and brain.

The drastic upsurge in figures, both across the UK and on Island, has fallen within the 18-35 year old demographic.
