PPI telephone scam in operation on the Island

Thu, 23 Aug 2012

The Office of Fair Trading is warning residents of another new scam which appears to be in operation on the Island.

A resident has reported an incident where they were targeted by someone claiming to be offering a refund for Payment Protection Insurance which had been mis-sold by the bank.

The caller, who knew the resident’s full name, address and date of birth, said they were from Money Saving Expert and were in the area with a cheque for £4,500.

In return they wanted £190 of UKash vouchers to cover their costs.

These vouchers are not available in the Isle of Man and the resident became suspicious and reported the call.

Anyone who receives a similar call is asked to contact the Office of Fair Trading on 686565.
