World Drugs Report slammed by Home Affairs

Wed, 04 Jul 2012

The Department of Home Affairs has slammed a new report which puts the Isle of Man at the top of a world table for cocaine use, calling it “deeply flawed”.

Yesterday the World Drugs Report 2012 indicated that 3.5 per cent of 15 to 64 year olds on the Island had used the Class A substance.

The Department claims the data – which is from 2007 – doesn’t tally with its own statistics and says the findings are based on a small sample of teenagers which has then been applied across the entire Isle of Man population.

Political head of the Isle of Man Drug and Alcohol Strategy David Quirk says the report appears to have a deeply flawed methodology and should be disregarded.
