DEFA building proves its worth

Tue, 22 May 2012

The DEFA headquarters in St John’s has proved its worth by costing less to heat than other government offices.

That’s according to the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture who conducted research on the building using the BREEAM assessment method.

The building which has been open for two years got a rating of excellent and showed that it costs 50 per cent less to heat it due to its good insulation and a woodchip boiler.

The woodchip comes from the conifer plantations on the Island and Minister Phil Gawne said the fact the fuel was produced on Island helped save money:[play media file below]
