Public urged to help keep coasts cleans

Sat, 12 May 2012

The Manx public is being urged to be more considerate when around the Island's coasts.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says we have to look after the sea for our own and future generations' benefit.

DEFA is urging people against releasing balloons or lanterns at celebrations, as the ribbons, wires and string can injure wildlife.

It's also advising not to flush plastic or other non-biodegradable items down the toilet and to make sure dog waste is disposed of properly.

It comes just a week after the Marine Conservation Society ranked the Island's beaches amongst the worst in the British Isles for water quality.
