Supervised walk to the Tower of Refuge

Thu, 15 Mar 2012

One of the Island's most famous, yet least accessible landmarks is likely to see an increase in visitors next month.

A rare opportunity to take a supervised walk out to the Tower of Refuge is being organised for 7th April.

Coastguard and Lifeboat crews will be on hand to make sure people are able to get to Conister Rock and back again safely.

As well as being able to get up close to the tower, there'll be a chance to learn more about its history.

Weather and tidal conditions permitting, the walk will begin at around 5.45pm on 7th April, returning to shore by 8.15pm.

Under 16s have to be accompanied by an adult and sensible footwear needs to be worn.

Douglas Development Partnership came up with the idea.

Town Centre Manager Gill Anderson says although the tower is so close, many people will never have been there before.[play media file below]
