Poor roads give a poor impression of the Island says highways boss

Mon, 12 Mar 2012

The highways boss believes the state of the roads reflects on the Island and affects the economy.

Road tax is going up from next month and the Department of Infrastructure is promising to spend the extra money it receives on road maintenance.

At the moment, there's a £100m backlog of work that needs doing.

The DOI also says there's a shortfall of around £60m a year in the amount needed to keep the roads in their current condition.

Director of Highways Richard Pearson says their state could create a bad impression.[play media file below]
