Women urged to follow current breast screening advice

Tue, 06 Mar 2012

The Health Minister says women should still attend breast screening appointments despite a review in the UK into how effective the test is.

David Anderson says screening does help detect breast cancer in the early stages.

Screening is routinely offered to women aged 50 to 70.

Part of the review is looking at whether that age range should be extended, as well as the problems caused by false positives and over diagnosis.

Until the outcome of the report is published later this year, Mr Anderson wants women to continue to follow the current advice [play clip]
