Minister asks Tynwald to wait for breast screening report

Thu, 23 Feb 2012

The Island's parliament will wait for the outcome of a report on breast screening before deciding whether to make it routine for the over 70s.

Ramsey MHK Leonard Singer asked Tynwald to support his motion making breast screening standard to a wider age range.

However, Health Minister David Anderson made an amendment asking that no changes be made until the review currently underway in the UK is complete.

Once the report is published, the Department of Health will consider it before deciding what the most cost effective move is.

Tynwald approved Mr Anderson's amendment.

Breast screening is routinely offered to women aged 50 to 70 on the Island, but anyone with concerns can refer themselves.
